Virginia Man Discovered Responsible of Little one Intercourse, Pornography Fees Forward of Homicide Trial – NBC4 Washington

A Virginia jury that found a man guilty after authorities accused his girlfriend of encouraging his girlfriend to sexually abuse her 2-year-old son recommended that he serve two life sentences plus 45 years in prison.

A Montgomery County, Virginia jury on Monday returned the verdict against McKenzie Kyle Hellman, 27, who had faced five charges of child sex and pornography, the Roanoke Times reported. The trial focused on the sexual abuse of Steven Dale Meek II, the son of Hellman’s friend Kayla Thomas, also 27, in January 2019.

Circuit Court Judge Robert Turk has scheduled a hearing on June 29 to determine whether to accept the jury’s recommendation or apply a different sentence to Hellman.

Hellman is also charged with killing the toddler and is on trial for second degree murder and child molestation on a date yet to be determined.

The case marked the first trial in the New River Valley since the coronavirus pandemic began. The jury was distributed throughout the courtroom to reduce the chance of the virus being transmitted. The only viewers admitted were two journalists and two relatives of Meek’s father. Other relatives were watching on a monitor in a hallway.
