Unhealthy*ss driver in heist video was escorting courier van carrying high-value items

The tactical driver, who was registered in a high-speed hunt with robbers in Gauteng, was at the wheel of a security escort vehicle, not a CIT van, as widely reported.

Former police sniper Leo Prinsloo was escorting high-quality cargo on the N4 in Pretoria when brazen armed robbers opened fire on his armored security vehicle last month.

Dashcam footage showing Prinsloo and his colleague Lloyd Mthombeni during the attempted highway robbery has spread on social media.

Prinsloo, a member of the security firm Fortis Pro Active Defense Solutions, was hailed by South Africans for his skills, courage and nerves of steel during the attempted robbery.

Prior to that, he was a member of the SAPS Special Task Force for 12 years before joining the private security industry as an instructor.

CapeTalk was unable to speak to Prinsloo directly due to an ongoing investigation.

Fortis Pro Active Defense Solutions director Deon Coetzee tells CapeTalk that Prinsloo and Mthombeni are in good spirits following the incident.

According to Coetzee, more and more companies are organizing tactical training for their security personnel to protect courier vehicles and cash trucks.

The vehicle Leo was driving had no cell phones. It was the escort vehicle to another vehicle, a well-known courier company in South Africa, that carried the cell phones.

He tried to free himself from the line of fire and to get to the vehicle with the actual goods.

The moment you find yourself in this situation and people are shooting you, you obviously want to live. Then you have to fight for your life.
