If there’s a Ford model we haven’t heard of in a long time, it’s the Escort. Most people would associate the Escort with the early generation models, especially the coveted Mexico and RS2000 Mk1 and Mk2 variants. However, the sedan was killed in 2002 and technically replaced by the Focus.
Well, it seems that the Escort name lives on. However, it is no longer sold in Europe or North America. Instead, it’s now a China model based on the Focus sedan. Although it looks very modern and is similar to the brand’s current model range, it is based on the second generation Focus, which was offered from 2004 to 2011. Ford recently updated the model for 2021 as well.
When it comes to design, the Escort has a large grille with a mesh design. It’s then flanked by a pair of sharp-looking LED headlights. The front bumper has a sporty design and is similar to the sedans that Ford sells in other countries. At the rear sit a pair of slim LED taillights and an equally sporty-looking bumper with two exhausts.
It’s also very modern inside. The cabin is equipped with an array of features and amenities that most modern vehicles would offer. You wouldn’t expect this to be based on a 2004 model. However, the highlight of the interior of the 2021 model would be the new double 10.25-inch screens. As a result, the escort has a bit of a Mercedes-Benz feel. The sedan was made safer with six airbags as standard.
Under the hood, the only engine option is a 1.5 liter suction grinder with 122 horsepower. The power transmission to the front wheels (unfortunately escort fan with rear-wheel drive) takes place either via a 6-speed manual transmission or an automatic transmission.
Since Ford Philippines is offering the territory here, which happens to come from China, we have to consider whether the brand should sell sedans again. Keep in mind that Ford is no longer selling sedans or hatchbacks locally. But with the escort 2021 they could possibly conquer part of the limousine market.
