KUBINKA / Moscow Region / April 14 / TASS /. Su-35S multipurpose fighters will escort a Tu-160 strategic missile bomber for the first time during the Victory Day parade in Moscow’s Red Square on May 9, the Air Force and Tactical Training Center chief Alexander Ivashkin said on Wednesday .
“We are planning to fly in a traditional formation over Red Square, but this year a group of Tu-160 aircraft has been added, escorted by four Su-35 fighters from the Russian Knights aerobatic group,” he said after the results of the fifth rehearsal of the part of the Victory Day parade in the air.
The rehearsal took place in choppy weather conditions, but the pilots are ready to complete tasks in any weather, he stressed.
This year, three Mi-26 heavy-lift helicopters will open the Victory Parade on May 9th in Moscow’s Red Square to celebrate the 76th anniversary of the Soviet Union’s victory over Nazi Germany in the Great Patriotic War of 1941-1945. They are followed by the crews of the Mi-8 transport and attack choppers, the Mi-35 and Ka-52 gunships and the Berkuts (Golden Eagles) aerobatic team, which flies Mi-28N rotary-wing aircraft, the Russian Defense Ministry previously reported.
The flyover will also include Tu-160 and Tu-95MS strategic missile transport bombers, Il-78 air refueling tankers, Il-76 military transport aircraft, Su-35S fighters, Su-34 and Su-24M bombers, and other aircraft, said the aircraft.
The flyover is completed by the crews of the MiG-31K and Su-57 fighter planes, as well as three groups of aircraft: the tactical wing of the Lipetsk Aviation Center, the planes that perform the Kubinka Diamond stunt, and six Su-25 planes that do it will release special exhaust gases in the colors of the Russian national flag.
All flights are carried out at altitudes of 180 to 550 meters and at speeds of 200 to 500 km / h, according to the ministry.
The fifth rehearsal of the airborne portion of the Victory Day Parade took place on Wednesday at a training ground in Alabino outside the Russian capital. There were over 70 aircraft and helicopters belonging to the Russian aerospace forces.
