Registered intercourse offender in DeLand charged with sexual battery on youngster, officers say

A registered sex offender in the DeLand area was charged with sexually assaulting a child after an investigation by the Volusia County Sheriff’s Office found evidence of child pornography abusing a young girl, officials at the Volusia Wes County Sheriff’s Office said Brough, 48, 3030 Marsh Road, DeLand, is also charged with improperly registering as a sex offender and is charged with possession of child pornography discovered photos and videos depicting a child’s sexual performance. In early March, detectives from the Child Exploitation Unit at the Volusia County Sheriff’s Office were alerted to the case by a notice from the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children. The material in the top concerned young female victims between the ages of 3 and 7 who were shown in sexually explicit situations. Brough has been identified as the subject seen in several videos depicting a 4 to 5 year old girl being sexually assaulted. A search warrant was carried out on April 6th at Broughs’ home in DeLand. In interviews with detectives, Brough confessed to looking for and viewing child pornography and identified the girl featured with him in the videos. He stated that he had inadequate contact with the victim on multiple occasions, no later than April 2. He was registered as a sex offender in the Volusia County Sheriff’s Office on October 16, 2020. However, he did not register any vehicles that he was authorized to drive, officials said. Detectives discovered that he had not updated vehicle information on a self-made trailer on the property on Marsh Road. Brough was listed as a sex offender after being convicted on May 7, 1997 of lewd and lascivious abuse of a child under the age of 16. Since then he has had to register as a sex offender. Investigators were currently arrested on April 6 charges. He remains at the Volusia County Branch Jail without bail. Further charges are possible as detectives look for additional potential victims of sexual exploitation. In addition to the sexual battery, Wes Brough, 48, of 3030 Marsh Road, DeLand, is charged with non-registration as a sex offender and charged with possession of child pornography.

According to the report, detectives discovered photos and videos depicting a child’s sexual performance during the investigation.
