PITTSBURGH, PA – A Pittsburgh, PA resident pleaded guilty to federal court charges of distributing material relating to the sexual exploitation of children, United States attorney Stephen R. Kaufman announced today.
George Goodwin, 49, pleaded guilty to U.S. District Judge Nicholas Ranjan.
In connection with the confession of guilt, the court was told that Goodwin was engaged in an internet chat on March 8, 2020 when he was distributing two videos of prepubescent children engaging in sexual acts with adults. The court was also told that Goodwin’s investigation involved multiple search warrants and the discovery of a large collection of child pornography, including videos depicting the sadistic and masochistic abuse of prepubescent children.
Judge Ranjan scheduled the sentence on September 7, 2021. The law provides for a total sentence of 20 years in prison, a fine of $ 250,000, or both. According to the federal sentencing guidelines, the actual sentence imposed is based on the gravity of the offense and, if applicable, on the previous history of the accused.
Pending conviction, the court released Goodwin for home incarceration and required $ 50,000 bail.
United States Assistant Attorney Lee J. Karl is pursuing this case on behalf of the government.
The Federal Bureau of Investigation conducted the investigation that led to the prosecution of Goodwin.
