Particulars revealed about lawyer common investigation of Cuomo intercourse harassment claims | High Tales
ALBANIA – The independent investigators hired by Attorney General Letitia James’ office to investigate sexual harassment claims against Governor Andrew Cuomo have far-reaching powers and are paid a pretty penny for their work, according to internal Daily News documents.
James hired Joon Kim, former acting US attorney for New York’s Southern District, and workplace discrimination attorney Anne Clark to lead the investigation last month as allegations against the embattled governor mounted.
Documents outlining the scope of the investigation indicate that Kim and Clark’s firms “are entitled to use their resources as they deem appropriate” to conduct their review of Cuomo’s conduct. The firms involved also conducted reviews of current customers and previous engagements and “found no conflict of interest”.
James said at the time of the appointments in early March that the work “will consist of – but not be limited to, issuing subpoenas and attendant compliance; Review of relevant documents and records; Interviews, including formal statements; and analysis of data and information relevant to the investigation. “
Engagement letters to both companies indicate they have been under contract for at least six months, but the term can be extended by James, and none of the parties involved are allowed to publicly discuss the probe.
The contracts indicate that Kim and two other lawyers from his practice, Cleary Gottlieb Steen & Hamilton, were appointed “Special Deputies” to the first Assistant Attorney General Jennifer Levy. Clark and another attorney in their firm, Vladeck, Raskin & Clark, have the same special designation.
Investigators must keep Levy updated on their progress on a weekly basis. When the review is complete, the team will produce and publish a written report of its findings, said James’ office.
The agreements, made as part of a Freedom of Information request, show that principal or senior partners working on the probe will be paid $ 750 an hour. Mid-level partners earn $ 575 per hour while junior partners earn $ 500. Senior associates are paid $ 450 per hour and junior associates are paid $ 325 per hour.
Everyone involved cut out their work for her as several women, including two Cuomo employees, accused the 63-year-old of sexual harassment or other inappropriate behavior. A current employee claims the governor fondled her in his executive mansion office late last year.
Dozens of officials in the administration have reportedly received subpoenas and have been instructed to keep all relevant documents. Some of the prosecutors have already been interviewed.
Charlotte Bennett, a 25-year-old former aide to the governor who claims Cuomo asked her about her sex life and whether she’s ever been with older men, met with investigators for more than four hours in March via Zoom.
During the interview, Bennett revealed new details about the governor’s behavior and a “sexually hostile work environment,” according to her attorney Debra Katz.
The current Cuomo worker, who says the governor reached under her blouse and fumbled at her chest after being asked to help him with his cell phone last November, was also interviewed last month, according to the Albany Times Union.
While apologizing for workplace comments that may have made someone feel uncomfortable, Cuomo has strongly denied ever touching anyone inappropriately.
Despite his claims, the allegations have called for the governor’s resignation from both sides of the aisle.
Cuomo repeatedly said he had no intention of resigning and asked New Yorkers to hold the verdict pending the completion of the AG investigation and an ongoing impeachment investigation by the State Assembly.
