On Wednesday, he helped with the peaceful transfer of power that these protesters opposed and went to the 59th inauguration ceremony with Vice President Kamala Harris and her husband, soon to be second gentleman Doug Emhoff.
Goodman was also named Deputy Honorary Sergeant for Arms on Inauguration Day.
On January 6, Goodman led the mob on a chase to distract them from the unguarded Senate chambers, where senators, staff and reporters took refuge.

Legislators tabled a bill last week to honor Goodman with the Congressional Gold Medal for “his bravery and quick thinking.”
Reps Emanuel Cleaver from Missouri, Charlie Crist from Florida and Nancy Mace from South Carolina introduced the bill on Thursday.

“Officer Eugene Goodman was the only thing standing between the mob and the United States Senate,” said Crist. “I shudder at the thought of what could have happened if Officer Goodman hadn’t thought quickly and committed himself to his duty and his country.”
