Irish Naval Service escorts Belgian Fishing Vessel to Castletownbere #WestCork – (Information)

LÉ James Joyce (P62) holds Belgian registered fishing vessel 65 miles southeast of Mizen Head

Yesterday afternoon (February 28, 21) the maritime service vessel LÉ James Joyce (P62) arrested a Belgian registered fishing vessel about 65 nautical miles southeast of Mizen Head.

The detention related to alleged violations of fishing regulations. The ship was brought to Castletownbere, where it was handed over to An Garda Síochána.

This is the first ship to be arrested by the sea service in 2021. The Defencea Forces conduct inspections of sea fisheries as part of the provision of government services to the government in accordance with the Service Level Agreement with the Sea Fishery Protection Authority.
