Howard University’s marching band accompanies VP Kamala Harris on inauguration day
Howard University’s marching band will accompany Vice President Kamala Harris on Inauguration Day 2021.
WASHINGTON – – Bands representing the alma mater of President Joe Biden, University of Delaware, and Vice President Kamala Harris, Howard University accompanied their respective alumni on Wednesday after the dedication ceremony at the Capitol.

A number of cast accompany President Joe Biden after his inauguration
A variety of artists – including his alma mater’s marching band – accompanied President Joe Biden on his way to the White House after his inauguration on Wednesday.
Before the parade, the bands practice runs created a rare sense of normalcy at the unprecedented inauguration.
The inauguration takes place amid the coronavirus pandemic and after a riot that overtook the Capitol just two weeks earlier.

The performances preceded a virtual event called “Parades Across America”.
“We are honored to be part of the historic inauguration of President-Elect Joe Biden and Vice-President-Elect Kamala Harris,” said Wayne AI Frederick, President of Howard University, prior to the historic event. “Throughout her career, the vice president-elect has taken her Howard training with her to ensure she adheres to truth and service and has inspired her to achieve unprecedented levels of excellence.”

The Howard University marching band did a practice run in Freedom Plaza on Wednesday. The band was supposed to escort Howard’s vice president, Kamala Harris.

The Howard University band also performed on President Barack Obama’s first inauguration in 2009.
The University of Delaware’s marching band, called the Fightin ‘Blue Hen Marching Band, would also accompany Biden after he officially took office, according to a university press release.

“It is a tremendous honor for the University of Delaware Marching Band Drumline Battery to be one of only two civilian groups to attend the opening events in person on Wednesday,” said UD President Dennis Assanis. “We are excited to share our UD pride with the world and we will cheer all of our students as they help celebrate this amazing milestone for a colleague at Blue Hen.”

Biden attended the University of Delaware in 1965, where he completed a double degree in history and political science. Harris earned a bachelor’s degree in political science from Howard University in 1982.
