Fourth member of the family charged in Athens County intercourse abuse case | Information, Sports activities, Jobs
ATHENS, Ohio – Bond was set at $ 100,000 for a fourth member of an Athens County family on charges of sexual abuse on an investigation.
Josiah Bellar, 24, appeared in the Athens District Common Pleas Court on Thursday and pleaded not guilty to three first degree rape charges and two serious sexual rape charges.
The charges stem from an investigation after Bellar’s sister Serah disappeared in April 2020 and announced on a social media post earlier this year that she was safe. She said she ran away because of concerns about her safety and allegations of sexual assault by members of her family.
According to a statement from the Athens District Public Prosecutor’s Office, charges against Josiah Bellar concern two juvenile victims that occurred between April 2008 and 2016.
Josiah Bellar is incarcerated at the Warren Correctional Institution and is serving a term for theft, robbery, gun possession and counterfeiting, which is expected to end on December 2nd. Assistant prosecutor Liz Pepper applied for the loan as the case could go beyond its release date, prosecutors said. She also alleged Bellar threatened one of the victims.
The parents of Josiah Bellar, Robert, 54, and Deborah Bellar, 49, from Athens are also charged. They are being held in the Southeastern Ohio Regional Jail on separate $ 1 million bonds, each charged with second degree crimes involving a pattern of corrupt activity and two third degree crimes involving children. Josiah Bellar’s brother, Jonathan, 26, is charged with gross sexual assault and is being held on $ 100,000 bond.
