As a great relief for the poor patients of the state, the Fortis Escorts Hospital Dehradun started treating patients with heart disease under Atal Ayushman Uttarakhand Yojana (AAUY) on Friday.
AAUY beneficiaries can now use angiography, angioplasty, valve repair and bypass surgery in the hospital.
The chief cardiologist and head of the hospital’s cathlab, Dr. Irfan Yaqoob Bhat told The Pioneer that the treatment was carried out on three AAUY cardholders on the first day.
He said the coronary artery disease is caused by a blockage in the blood vessels. He said that all types of heart disease are treated with the best technology in the hospital. Dr. Bhat said the hospital had performed a total of 13,000 angiographies, 5,266 angioplasties and 2,700 heart conditions in children over the past decade. The hospital has also treated more than 2.80 lakh patients in its OPD.
Fortis Escorts Hospital facility director Avik Chauhan said the hospital was a non-Covid-19 hospital.
The state government extended the contract with the Fortis Hospital in March of this year. The state health department signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Fortis Hospital in March 2011. As part of the contract, the hospital was given an entire floor of the Pandit Deendayal Upadhyaya (Coronation) Hospital. The government had made other assets available to the hospital as well.
