Firefighters brought a truck full of burning garbage from Waste Management Wenatchee Transfer Station to the East Wenatchee landfill, where it was dumped and doused Thursday.
Chelan County Fire District 1 responded to a commercial fire at the transfer station in South Wenatchee just before noon and found the fire was burning in the trailer.
The trailer was used to bring garbage from the train station to the landfill.
Firefighters sprayed water and foam on the fire before deciding to hook it up to a truck and take it to the landfill, said Kay McKellar, fire department information officer.
A tilt was used to dispose of the burning debris, which was then spread and cleared by workers at the landfill, she said.
The truck and trailer were taken to the landfill by fire trucks from Chelan and Douglas counties.
What caused the garbage to ignite is being investigated.
