DEL RIO, Texas – US border guards assigned to Del Rio Station arrested a convicted sex offender on February 9.
“Thanks to the Del Rio agents, this predator, convicted of aggravated kidnapping and sexual abuse, has been arrested and prevented from committing further crimes in the United States,” said Austin L. Skero II, Chief Patrol Agent for the Del Rio Sector . “The Del Rio Sector agents are focused on protecting our nation from all threats.”
Agents arrested Jorge Ramirez-Barrera, a 34-year-old Mexican national, shortly after he entered the United States illegally. During processing, file reviews revealed that Ramirez-Barrera was convicted of aggravated kidnapping and sexual abuse in 2017 and sentenced to 156 days in prison. Ramirez-Barrera was last removed from the United States in 2017.
As a convicted criminal, he is punished with 8 USC § 1326 – re-entry after deportation, which carries a maximum sentence of up to 20 years in prison.
