DEL RIO, Texas – US Border Guard assigned to the Del Rio Sector arrested three convicted sex offenders on March 25th.
At around 8 a.m., agents from Uvalde Station arrested a man from Mexico who was illegally present near Knippa in the United States. During the processing, file reviews revealed that the man was convicted of sexual assault by two minors in 2014 and was sentenced to 10 years in prison. He was last removed from the United States in 2017.
At around 10:40 am, Carrizo Springs Station agents arrested a large group shortly after they had illegally entered the United States. During processing, file reviews revealed that two men in the group, both from Mexico, had previously been convicted of sex crimes. The first man was convicted of sexually assaulting a child in 2015 and given five years probation. He was last removed from the United States in 2015. The second man was convicted of aggravated sexual abuse in 2009 and given two years probation. He was last removed from the USA in 2009.
“These three predators were convicted of aggravated sexual abuse and assault against minors,” said Austin L. Skero II, Chief Patrol Agent for the Del Rio Sector. “We continue to see an increase in convicted sex offenders entering the country illegally, and I thank our agents and law enforcement partners for quickly identifying them and making sure they don’t make it into our communities.”
As of March 14, Del Rio Sector agents have arrested a total of seven convicted sex offenders.
As convicted offenders, they are each punished with 8 USC § 1326 – Re-entry after deportation, which can result in a maximum sentence of up to 20 years in prison.
