The Coast Guard removed a 28-year-old navigator from a 57-foot fishing vessel about 17 miles off the coast of Oregon Inlet today.

Observers from the North Carolina Coast Guard Command Center were informed by the operator of the fishing vessel on VHF Channel 16 that they needed medical attention.

The Oregon Inlet Coast Guard launched a 29-foot response boat small boat crew to help.

Upon arrival on site, the RBS ship’s crew relocated an EMT-certified crew member on board the ship to provide first aid.

The RBS ship’s crew escorted the fishing vessel to the Oregon Inlet Fishing Center, where the seaman was taken to the Outer Banks Hospital, where he waited for Dare County Ambulance personnel.
