ACPD Helps to Escort a Household of Geese Alongside I-66

The Arlington County Police Department often accompanies VIPs such as the President and Heads of State on their journeys to and through Arlington.

On Thursday morning, ACPD conducted a different type of escort along a local freeway. Instead of driving in limousines, these VIPs waddled across the sidewalk.

I was driving down I-66 near Spout Run this morning around 10:00 am and saw the craziest thing – make way for ducklings! There was a whole family of ducks proudly strutting down the first lane of I-66. @ArlingtonVaPD was there. Hope someone (@ARLnowDOTcom?) Had a photo.

The waterfowl family – it turned out to be geese, not ducks – made it safely off the busy highway with the help of a quick-thinking and animal-loving detective.

“Around 10 a.m., a detective walking outside Spout Run Parkway on EB I-66 came across a family of geese walking in the lane,” said Ashley Savage, spokeswoman for the Arlington County Police Department. “He activated his emergency lights and helped them escort down the ramp where they left the street.”

Not a word about where the family of two adults and five little ones ended up.
